Sligo-Jared Hong

9 Oct

My trip to Sligo was very relaxing and entertaining. When we first arrived, we were a bit put off by the fact that we would all be sharing one big room as our bed room, but by the end of the weekend, I think we all learned to appreciate it. On the first day we took a hike to see Queen Maeve’s Cairn. At the top we were able to see out across a large part of County Sligo. This Cairn was very interesting because just a couple hundred meters away we saw the query where the builders got all their stone to build it. After this hike came my favorite part of the weekend, surfing. Even though I have been before, being able to surf in Ireland was an incredible experience. The weather, the waves, and the location could not have been more perfect. The next day we went on one of the most intense hikes of the trip. It started out as a simple excursion to visit a couple more cairns, but after climbing over one wrong fence we spent an hour trekking through miles and miles of bogs. The going was tough, and I don’t think one person made it through without falling at least once. Overall, Sligo was an enjoyable weekend.
